Open Day Workshops for Islamic Junior High School Principals

Between 26–28 November 2007 and 15–16 January 2008, LAPIS ELTIS conducted Open Day Workshops or ‘semilokas’ for the Principals and School Founders of the participating MTs schools from selected districts in East Java and Lombok. 540 School Principals attended the event in total.

The aim of the workshops was to keep the school principals and founders informed of all ELTIS initiatives relevant to their schools, especially with regard to the English Language Upgrading and Communicative English Language Teacher Training courses that their teachers will participate in from January 2008 to September 2009. In addition, the workshops aimed to explain the purpose of the training and the benefits to the schools themselves and the local community.

The workshops provided an opportunity to hear input and suggestions from those attending, through a Question and Answer session, and ELTIS will endeavour to incorporate relevant suggestions into the ELTIS Workplan.

The workshops also served as an opportunity for the schools to confirm their commitment to releasing their English language teachers for training and supporting them upon their return, through the signing of Letters of Commitment between each School/Foundation, ELTIS and district Religious Affairs offices.

Commitment Certificates will be issued to participating MTs to display their commitment, and this will assist in raising community awareness of ELTIS initiatives.
